The speech that I chose to observe and critique was actually more of a lecture. I thought it would make a great presentation to observe being that it was this instructors first teaching experience. It took place at a technical school that I attend full time for five hours a day monday through friday. The name of the school is the motorcycle mechanics institute and from that I am hoping you can determine the nature of the program. The school requires about one and a half years of attendance to recieve a degree and you can choose exactly which manufacurers' training to attend. The class I happened to be attending at the time is the Kawasaki factory training program. At this point in the training the instructors job becomes much more difficult. The training is far more specific when dealing with individual manufacturer techniques as opposed to teaching the general principles of the motorcycle. They must be very specific and clear now that the material is much more involved. In an environment where technical training takes place your failure to successfully communicate as an instructor will never go unnoticed. The students, immediately after recieveing the information demonstrate the task in a physical environment as a result demonstrating your ability to communicate the material. .
The day of instruction I chose was a monday and as I had previously explained it was our new instructor Jons' first day. The lecture or presentation took place in the shop where we would work. A large garage style room filled with mechanical equipment, work benches, and motorcyles, some dis-assembled, for demonstration purposes. Their were twelve grade school style desks provided for the audience, a stool and a dry erase board on wheels that could be spun end over end to use both sides. A computer with a projector was placed on a cart in the middle of the room that was used for powerpoint and other computer system demonstrations.
