As the chilly autumn wind swept us along the path towards her house, lightly kicking through the heaps of orange and brown fallen leaves, Sarah and I were conversing about the Morals and Ethics seminar that we had just had at school. My girlfriend Sarah, was the most compassionate and dedicated person that I had ever met, and I felt very fortunate to be dating this amazing girl. I often thought of Sarah as being a much younger version of Mother Theresa. Although she modestly disagreed with me, I knew that being compared to Mother Theresa encouraged her to do yet more to help out society. .
As we wearily approached Sarah's conventional two-story house, with a white-picket fence and a border of faded red and white roses, we ended our discussion and talked about going out for dinner later that evening. Sarah's father was outside in the garden, gathering up the unwieldy fall leaves and discarding them into a giraffe-like trash bag. I felt very awkward at that moment because I didn't know if I should kiss Sarah good-bye or just stroll away waving and saying good bye. I unfurled my frigid hands from my oversized brown leather jacket and greeted her father. "Good afternoon Mr. Edwards," I calmly saluted, shaking his right hand with a firm grasp. "Good afternoon Justin. How are you doing today? Have you made a decision on which colleges you will be applying to? Do you want to stay here in Massachusetts or go to another state?" Mr. Edwards inquired. I attempted not to look or act too nervously when I answered, "Yes sir, I am going to be applying to several colleges not too far from here, in the Boston area. I don't want to go too far away from home." He seemed pleased with my response and I could sense his approval, so I gave Sarah a quick hug goodbye and departed from the driveway, burying my numb hands back into the pockets of my worn out jacket, feeling very weary from the depressing weather that surrounded me like a shadow of clouds.
