Theology - What is Sin?

What is sin? This is a question that I have asked myself now and in the past. Not knowing much about this question, it is important to understand and have the knowledge of what sin is all about. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, "Sin is an offense against reason, truth, and right conscience; it is failure in genuine love for God and neighbor caused by a perverse attachment to certain goods" (Catechism of the Catholic Church). They also state that "Sin is an offense to God: Sin sets itself against God's love for use and turns out hearts away from it" (Catechism of the Catholic Church). With this being said, as humans when we sin, we are committing an action that God does not like and it is something that is frowned upon. Although human beings sin continually because they are selfish and addicted, God continues to love them and forgive their sins. People are constantly sinning, even when they are not aware. The choice we make to be pure and to have a faithful connection with God and not commit that offensive action before God is the personal decision we face almost everyday. According to Patrick McCormick: "Sin is better understood as the repudiation of the will of God by a human person" (pp.
