Becoming Your Own Boss

W. David Allen and William P. Curington, economics professors from Alabama and Arkansas, theorize, that for the most part, men go into business for themselves for a greater financial opportunity, whereas, women go for more freedom to and to work at home. A man's motivation can be seen as purely pecuniary, relating to money, and a woman's can be non-money related (Allen and Curington 143). Where a man's need and desires for self-employment are pecuniary, it is not with attaining wealth, it lies in other monetary issues. Women become self-employed to create wealth. Both are desire for satisfaction and providing for oneself. W. David Allen and William P. Curington, point out that women desire wealth to benefit the family, and a man's monetary motivations may not be centered on the family or in general, but for other important issues (Allen and Curington 160). In general the females' first desire is providing and protecting the family, and a man's may be for other monetary reason. In essence, a man goes into business for himself for the monetary reward, the extrinsic reward. The female, goes for the intrinsic reward, to spend more time at home and take care of kids and house. Both can ultimately be intrinsically rewarding though, a man's monetary reward can be intrinsic too. When he gets home, and sees smiles on his children's faces, and his kids' happiness intrinsically rewards him. Where the woman is intrinsically rewarded by the time she gets to spend with her kids.
Does scoring high on quantitative tests that measure and define achievement define how well someone will do? There is also a correlation between if someone can see a measureable reward to ownership, and self-employment. Many people who score well quantitatively go into business for themselves'. Can ones' measureable success have an impact? If someone feels and sees that they are succeeding, it very well may impact their success in the entrepreneurial world.
