Ever wonder if you are really protected when you are in college? We as college students should not only depend on security to keep us then we must take precaution about the people we surround ourselves with and be aware of our surroundings at all. I live on campus and I always ask myself what do security guards do, what are the qualifications, and how do security guards react to certain situations. .
All jobs are different in todays world. For example you have to have a high school diploma just to work in restaurants, but what about the other jobs that require you to have a college degree, and some type of experience. For instance when coming on to campus there is a guard shack where someone is there to see who comes in and off the campus. One day my mom came to pick me and take to the store and when came back there was no one in the guard shack and it was kind of suspicious to me. It has been a few times where there has been no one in the guard shack. I asked one of the security guard who I know and she said someone is always in the guard shack, they were probably out to the restroom and it made me feel a little worried because if no one is in the guard shack then anyone can come in and nobody will know unless an incident happens. In order to be qualified for a security guard position on a college or university campus you must be aware, brave, must have at least a college degree in law enforcement. However our campus security is always a step ahead when hiring top notch employees.
When hiring security guards there is a lot of research, drug testing, and interviews that future security must take because they are here to protect the students. I talked with security guard Stacy Brunson and asked her what is the processed to be qualified as a security guard. Like for her to get the job or how did she know that she was qualified. She said she had experience, was not scared, must have and good communication skills.
