Mental Health has always been a mystery the human brain can not comprehend fully, but yet we understand somehow how we think, talk, feel somehow. Mental Health is something very new to science and to us, to understand how the human being functions and the reasons why it function how it functions. Someday I hope we understand fully why we do the things we do. Depression is one of many mental health conditions and it is one that kills the most. Depression is not something someone not even a doctor can fully understand unless he/she is diagnosed with such a condition. Depression kills.
Depression is not something a person who is not depressed will comprehend that easily because they are not sad most of the time. Well, sadness is only scratching the surface when a person asks a person if they feel sad. Sad is a broad term to ask someone who is emotionally and mentally unstable. People will never understand how it is to live when all you think and feel is dying. Doctors think they can help a person cope by taking anti-depressants that hopefully stop the feelings and thoughts people have. .
The symptoms of depression and effect it has on the body are like trouble going to sleep (Insomnia) or sleeping too much. When one cant concentrate or find that previously easy tasks are now difficult because your mood swings are kinda drastick. The feeling of hopeless and helplessness like nothing will help. The negative thoughts are uncontrollable and one will have lose ones appetite or can not stop eating. A person is much more irritable, short-tempered, or more aggressive than usual. A person can have thoughts that life is not worth living like Suicide. These symptoms can lead to death from much of the overload of emotions and mood swings a person has and can make someone depressed and want to kill themselves.
Mental health began in 1879 as a science. Since then we have made huge jumps in mental health. As early as the late 1950s we started handing out pills for mental health (Fitzpatrick).
