Socialization in Kindergarden

Even though recess and play time is still poignant in schools, children are being taught too much in their developmental stage instead of discovering and exploring because Children are being put under immense pressure to learn mature things. A couple of years ago, a young mother began to research her options in preschools for her four year old son. After comparing and contrasting for weeks, she had made an appointment for a visit to one near her house. The preschool had rave reviews, many parents claimed great things about this preschool, and she had trusted them since she believed they were intelligent and thoughtful. The day finally came, and she prepared to visit the preschool she planned on sending her son to. As she walked into the classroom and sat on the floor behind fifteen three to four year old children, the supposed teacher emerged into the front of the classroom. The children, sitting cross-legged on the floor seemed eager to learn and ready to listen to what the teacher had to say. She began by picking up chalk and drawing shapes on the chalkboard. The presumed lesson for the day was 'shapes'. As the teacher handled the chalk, she dragged it across the board in the shape of a square and began to question the students. A student quickly raised their hand and proudly exclaimed "that's a square!" and the teacher nodded in agreement. Shapes had been a concrete staple in kindergarten learning for many years. Again, she raised the chalk to the board and began to draw a circle. Hands shot up once again, and an eager little girl answered 'circle'.
The teacher shook her head at the student rudely corrected and said, "No, Round." (Lansbury).
When I was younger, my favorite thing to do was explore. I was everywhere. One minute I would be on top of the kitchen table, and the next minute I was going through my mom's closet. Imagining myself in different worlds was my favorite dream, and everything seemed to fascinate me.
