In the movie, Cool Hand Luke, Luke showed many symbolisms between himself and Jesus Christ. These symbolisms were not only shown once, but multiple times through out the whole entire film of Cool Hand Luke. Some examples of these symbolisms being showed are when Luke had his egg-eating contest, the relationship Dragline had with Luke, and when Luke was broke. Cool Hand Luke demonstrates symbolism of Jesus Christ with three distinct examples including the eggs incident, the downfall of Jesus, and Jesus's relationship with others.
In the movie, Luke is challenged and tested by his prison mates. Luke says, "I can eat fifty eggs." (Cool Hand Luke). They continuously tell Luke there is no way he could eat that many eggs. Not even in an hour. For example in the movie they specifically say, "Nobody can eat fifty eggs." (Cool Hand Luke). Luke is no man to just back down from something, especially if it involves proving other people wrong in order for him to be right. And he was right. Luke ate all 50 eggs. The prison mates said that it was not possible for anyone to ever eat 50 eggs in 1 hour and Luke did it. This right here symbolizes how Luke can be compared to Jesus Christ. And Jesus was the Son of God. This meant that he could do almost anything that was not humanly possible just because he had the power of God in him. This is why Luke symbolizes Jesus in this scene of the movie. They both can do things that are not possible for any other human to do. Also at the end of the scene when Luke eats 50 eggs, he lays on the table as if he had been crucified. His legs and arms were positioned exactly how Jesus' were when he was nailed to the cross. Throughout the whole time Luke was eating the eggs, he had one guy continuously cheering him on and being by his side. This was Dragline, Luke's best friend. .
Everyone has that one type of relationship with someone that can never be broken. This type of relationship is shown in the movie between Dragline and Luke.
