Methods of Conflict Resolution

It is common to have interpersonal conflicts in our day-to-day busy lives these days; whether the conflict is small or big. A disagreement among close friends, lovers, colleagues, and family members generally occurs when we are independent; mutually know our goals are not compatible, and consider each other as interference to reaching a certain goal. (Interpersonal Communication. (n.d.)) An interpersonal conflict I would like to address is my close friend (Jasmine) and I am are in process of planning an evening out, but want to make use of the time by doing our own individual activities. I want to spend the evening watching "Ender's Game " movie which I had been looking forward to for a long time, and since Jasmine and I will meet after a long time she wants to go for a dinner where we could spend quality time. We have limited time where we will not be able fulfill both activities; therefore we have to pick one, which would satisfy both of us. .
There are four methods of conflict resolutions, which include win-win, win-lose, lose-lose, and compromise. Starting with the win-lose conflict resolution where the one individual gets what he or she wants, whereas the opponent does not get what he or she wants. This method of conflict is best used to resolve disputes where a situation needs to be perceived as "either-or " type. An identified characteristic in the win-lose conflict resolution is Power. In this conflict it is essential to defend your opponent to get what you want. Referring to the textbook there are different kinds of Powers that include physical, intellectual, and mental, which are used as a tool to defend the opponent in the conflict. In the win-lose resolution only one of us from my stated conflict would get what one wants. (Adler, R. B. (2012)) If I represented the win and Jasmine would represent lose it would not be a fun evening as Jasmine would be upset, or the same way if I were in the lose situation.
