I chose this particular act to research because it affects me directly as well as friends and family members. Most everyone I know personally have used the Family Medical Leave Act or FMLA as it is abbreviated, to some extent, as it is possibly one of the most well known federally mandated acts. The Fa mily Medical Leave Act was enacted in 1993 in part by President Bush. This particular act was created in 1993. And the act provides eligible employees with two types of job-protected leave: regular leave and military family leave. The FMLA was intended "to balance the demands of the workplace with the needs of families." 1 This report provides a legislative history off the FMLA and describes the eligibility requirements and the major provisions of the act. .
The FMLA entitles eligible employees of covered employers to take leave that is job-protected for specified family and medical reasons. There are several types of leave such as job-protected leave, paid and unpaid leave, military leave, regular FMLA, and airline flight crew special leave. This gives them the continuation of group health insurance coverage under the same terms and conditions as if the employee had not taken leave. After returning from FMLA. An employee generally has the right to return to the same, or an equivalent job with the same pay, benefits and working conditions. This act entitles the employee for up to twelve weeks of leave for every twelve-month period that they have worked. The most common events that occur where employees take advantage of this benefit is for the birth of a child, adoption of a child, to care for a sick or seriously ill spouse, the employee themselves have a serious medical condition, or active military duty. .
This Federal act was started by the U.S. Department of Labor's Employment Standards Administration, Wage and Hour Division, who administers and enforces the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) for all private, state and local government employee and some federal employees.
