President Clinton signed the Brady Bill into action in 1993. The purpose of the bill requires all federally licensed firearm dealers to conduct background checks on gun buyers to screen out felons and other dangerous citizens. The law is named for President Reagan's Press Secretary James Brady, who was shot and severely wounded in a 1981 assassination attempt on President Reagan. However, the most important piece of federal gun control legislation in recent decades has had no statistically discernable effect on reducing gun deaths, according to a study by Philip J. Cook, a Duke University professor of public policy, economics and sociology. "The Brady Bill seems to have been a failure," Cook said, (Marshall). The key to solving these mass murders is all about finding out what is wrong with these murderers. "Our government, in its infinite folly, has disarmed us, then broadcast for all criminals to see, exactly when and where they can kill the most unarmed people"" (RKBA 2), Skip Coryell writes as he speaks about how the government has allowed schools to become a large target for mass murderers because of the "no gun zone ". A bomb made of simple materials did the largest school killing of all time in 1927. Yet the liberals still insist that the guns are the problem.
Second, gun control should not be implemented because guns provide a sense of security. Guns provide a special type of security that cannot be equaled by police protection. This is even true for people in safe, affluent areas. If a robber invades a person's house, the cops are not going to show up within three minutes. If the house owner owns a gun, they are able to protect themselves just as easy as if the police were there. That is not to say that having a gun in ones home means that they are immune from home invasions, but rather that they can at least have a good chance of effectively defending themself along with their family.
