Short Story - Memories of the End of the World

It is the darkest day in December; today is the day that the world ends. I am new to the age of 16, and in my junior year of high school. Today is the extraordinary day that we have all been anxiously awaiting. As I sit nervously, hands trembling with fear and dripping with sweat, I suddenly see the lights as bright as the stars above glow on my face and the sound of the excited crowd talking restlessly with unknown words. I close my eyes for just a brief moment and try and remember why the hell I would get myself into something like this. I awoke, eyes wide with fear, trying to muster up the strength to leave the comfort zone I call my bed. I can never forget; it was December 21, 2012, bright and early at 6 o'clock in the morning and I knew this day would be both an adventure and an experience. Leaving my room that morning, moving slowly, I glanced up at the handbill that had been carefully pinned above my door for around a month now. The flashy and humungous writing reads, "End of The World Bash." I kept repeating those five simple words to myself as I drive swiftly to a band members' house to meet up with everyone. When I finally arrived, I could see the excitement in each of the band members faces. I could also see Sid's tiny and efficient pick up truck parked facing the wrong way on the street as normal and Jack's big suburban under the big old oak tree covered in bird poop, which he complained about when it was time to leave. Walking up to the house, I could hear Jack yelling loudly and proudly from upstairs using the microphone, "Hi, we are Della. Hello, we are Della. YO! People! We are Della." We had granted Jack the permission to introduce the band at the show and he treated it strangely seriously, making time to practice screaming this on a daily basis. As I dash inside and intentionally pass the stairs, avoiding the room of practice, I head straight for the kitchen where I can smell the buttery biscuits cooking, even though I know there is no way I could eat with these nerves.
