My contribution resulted in my receiving an award from the International Health and Ecology Fund for active participation and contribution to environmental activities. During my undergraduate studies, I was active in the NGO "Suvchi " (Irrigator), where I was selected as a leader for the students of Hydro Melioration Department. I was able to participate in many conferences, workshops and international projects and to meet with world known scientists. This enhanced my knowledge on water management at the international level.
The knowledge gained during undergraduate years inspired me to go for Master of Technology Degree in the Water Resources Development and Management Department at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-Roorkee). My thesis focused on using computer models to quantitatively analyze water resources under the impact of climate change in Aral Sea Basin.
I have been working as an irrigation and drainage design engineer in two World Bank funded loan projects (275 million USD) for the last 4 years. The main objectives of the "Drainage, Irrigation and Wetlands Improvement"" and "Southern Karakalpakstan Water Management Improvement,"" projects are to rebuild the water infrastructure facilities so that agricultural productivity, employment and incomes for the local population are increased. I have been learning that the water resources sector faces increased competition from other sectors. Water scarcity, water quality and drought are issues that are leading to disputes between the different water users - not only at the local but also regional Central Asia levels (i.e., the Rogun hydroelectric dam project in Tajikistan and agricultural in Uzbekistan downstream). Exchanges of knowledge and experiences on policy issues between the members of the "global village should be frequent and vigoro," this will improve prosperity of the affected countries. In 2011 I spent three weeks touring water and environmental projects, organizations and universities in five states of the USA as part of the US State Department's International Visitors' Leadership Program.
