The bronze leaves by artist and jewelry designer Catherine Truman unceasingly catch my eye. They are situated on the David Jones building in North Terrace and have tarnished into a beautiful pigmentation of cool greens and warm browns. The subject and purpose of the bronze leaves is to promote North Terrace's beautiful natural gardens with leafy high trees. Adelaide is envied for these lush gardens in the heart of the city. .
"People can get away form the hustle and bustle of their office and still be close to nature- says Kym Zimmermann who also is an admirer of the bronze leaves. .
The 12 series of leaves are arranged in a linear flowing effect, as they are swept along by the wind, as if in a dance which gives me the sensation of, "autumn."" The composition of the leaves are free flowing they have a dappled, dainty image and relate to the peaceful gardens along North Terrace. I enjoyed analysing and gazing up at the leaves on this building. I get a relaxed and contented feeling when I look at them. The stained green colours that have surfaced on the bronze leaves, due to weathering, compliment the warm pastel sandstone masonry walls of the David Jones building, seem the perfect backdrop to contrast and make the leaves look more realistic.
