Dance and Art Therapy

This paper shows how important integrating dance is, not only for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Students, but for all students with or without learning disabilities. Dance offers students to use movement to show emotion, to be fit and healthy, and to not be afraid to try new thing. Dance has no wrong or right and it gives the sense of freedom and relaxation. Art therapies such as art, dance, drama, and music therapy offer parents more treatment alternatives. For children with ADHD, dance therapy may be the creative arts therapy of choice for ADHD manifests somatically, (Grönlund, E., Renck, B., & Weibull, J. 2005.
It's understandable to conquer ADHD problems with the body by working with breathing, rhythm and movement. Children with ADHD suffer from cognitive, psychiatric, educational, emotional, and social impairments. It is important to attack all impairments with practical use of the body. Children with ADHD benefit more than any other disorder from regular exercise because movement exercises increase dopamine in the human brain; just like the stimulus does (Grönlund, E., Renck, B., & Weibull, J. 2005). Creative dance and movement can enable the children to rebuild a healthier connection with the body, senses and cognitive skills, improving body awareness and body image. It can help to give children a sense of wholeness by connecting body, mind and emotions (as cited Grönlund, E., Renck, B., & Weibull, J. 2005). .
I believe that it is important to come up with ideas to meet common core standards in ways that children can outshine and show their understanding and intelligence. All areas of intelligences need to be taken care of appropriately in other for children to incorporate it to their learning styles. I do believe dance is important not only for children with disabilities, but for all children. Children need the opportunity to learn in a stress free environment, and dance is all about using movement, exercising, and having fun.
