Common Grounds of Religion and Sex

Identify a topic related to international human sexuality issues (examples include but are not limited to: female genital mutilation, prostitution, gender roles and expectations, female vs. male offspring, virginity, fertility, birth control, etc.). Then, using the two required references, explain the origin of the specific topic you have chosen, its impact on male and female sexuality, how the topic has changed over time, and its status today.
The issue I find most interesting about sexual issues when it comes to different countries is that of prostitution. In America the term prostitution is pretty clear cut, meaning that a person has sex for money. In other countries there are different forms and levels of prostitution and in some countries they are actually legal which casts a glance into what different countries view as being okay in terms of a countries views on sexuality. For example, in America sex is seen in movies, television, or any other form of entertainment really. Also there are strip clubs and the notorious streets in Las Vegas and Los Angeles that are known for prostitution but aside from that sex is something that is still moderately low key compared to some other countries. .
Take Amsterdam for instance; in this country prostitution is legal and openly publicized. The prostitutes actually have to have certificates to perform their duties to ensure that they are clean and disease free for clients. In my opinion this goes to show that in countries such as Amsterdam, France, and Germany that sex is more of an open topic instead of one that is just seen in terms of entertainment purposes and not to the extent it actually could be. Some people would consider this as a progressive fact about the U.S. that this country keeps sex limited to a very moderate public exposure level considering how other countries handle it. Prostitution has been around as early as the eighteenth century, continuing to develop and grow throughout time.
