Now I have changes my thoughts. School will come first but I still will be serving my neighbor as much as I can. My favorite service project off campus is Sidewalk Sabbath School.
The Present.
I learned many things that I really never considered before. We had a local firefighter give a presentation at our class. People fight fires not only because they can rescue people from fires, but also because it gives a thrill to the firemen themselves. AmeriCorps is an organization that provides financial support to people who volunteer with them. I never thought that a person could get financial support for volunteering. AmeriCorps is a great option for those who can manage time and are in college or just leaving college. We watched the movie "Radio' during class. It's about a football coach inviting and becoming a good friend with a mentally handicapped man from town and how this man can make a difference to everyone me meets. I learned that a person can easily be a friend to everyone just as easily as someone can be ousted by a whole town. If everyone was nice to their neighbors there would not be people on the outside like what happened to Radio and his family. Another impressing movie that we watched is Dead Man Walking. A person can change after a bad action. Just because a person made some bad decisions earlier in life doesn't mean that they will always be that person. I learned many things during class sessions. .
I've come to understand the most important concepts that we completed in class. During the presentation by the local fire department, I realized that volunteering can be hard work, but very rewarding. Some websites are set up so that you can get into the volunteer position.
