The Process and Study of Sleep

 


             ASC: they may become more emotional or emotionless. Inappropriate and unpredictable emotions can occur.
             Daydreaming: an individual will become more aware of their internal emotions.
             Alcohol-induced state: impaired emotional awareness and control. Can have exaggerated emotional responses and experiences.
             Self-Control.
             NWC: Higher levels of self-control as you are able to react to the internal and external stimuli. Fully operational of feelings and movements.
             ASC: difficulty maintaining self-control, coordination and controlling movements and emotions.
             Alcohol-Induced State: There is less self-control. It may be replaced by more confidence.
             Time Orientation.
             NWC: time is moving at normal rate. Individuals are aware of their place in time and are able to focus on the past, present and the future.
             ASC: Estimation of time is distorted. It may appear slow or pass more quickly. Individuals may even have no sense of time (Asleep).
             Daydreaming: it will make time feel like its going faster than normal.
             Alcohol-induced state: Impaired perceptions of time. .
             Controlled Processes.
             It is whereby information processing requires conscious and mental effort in which the individuals focus their attention towards achieving a particular goal. Related to controlled processing is selective attention, whereby the individual focuses on only one object or thought process. .
             It may start off as a controlled process but over time with practice may turn into an automatic process.
             Automatic Processes.
             They are processes that require little mental effort and awareness. Such as tying your shoelaces. Related to automatic processes is divided attention, where we have the ability to distribute our attention and undertake two or more activities simultaneously.
             Point Two.
             Sleep is usually described as a regular-occurring ASC that typically occurs naturally and is primarily characterised by a loss of conscious awareness.
             Purpose of Sleep.
