            Her mid-length golden hair flowed out of her tight ponytail hitting the bottom of her white collared shirt. Her hazel eyes were really showing more green than brown this evening. The band was playing old western tunes. The girls' giggles and chatter about young boys filled the small, single-room school. .
             He watched her; he couldn't seem to keep his eyes off of her. He was a handsome and strapping young man, with thick, wavy, dark brown hair. Not taking his emerald eyes away for even a second, he watched her every movement. He already knew he wanted to grow old looking at her. that way she looked over her shoulder and smiled! He wanted to wake up every day with her smiling at him. Finally, he worked up the courage to ask her for a dance.
             "May I have this dance?" Nick asked in the deepest, most gentleman-like voice he could get out.
             "Sure, Nick," Lila replied. A little blushed at the thought of dancing with the handsome 14-year-old.
             Gently grabbing her petite hand in his, he led her to the dance floor. His heart was pounding so fast that he was afraid she might hear it over the band. He smiled up at the sky and nodded as if to tell God, "Thank you." Even just 14, he was in love. She just smiled at him the whole time he danced her around the floor.
             As the dancers mingled he looked at her and said, in a very-sure voice, "Tonight I've met the women I am going to marry.".
             "Oh, is that right? Well, who is she?" Lila replied, a little confused by the announcement.
             "You, Lila!" Nick replied, grinning ear to ear.
             Lila giggled while her checks filled with a pretty pink blush. Her reply to him was, you never know.
             Seven years later the handsome, now-21-year-old Nick had his prayers answered! Nick over the years kept up on Lila through family and friends. One day while visiting a near-by town, Nick saw her strolling down the street. His heart fluttered as it did that night so long ago.
