Music Review - Age of Worry by John Mayer

"Age of Worry," by John Mayer, was released in 2012 on his album "Born and Raised." The song, "Age of Worry," is considered blues/rock. This song is important to me because it's about living life on my own terms, not according to what my parents used to tell me or what I'm conditioned to with the military. I need to be content with myself as a person in the respect that I don't depend on the approval I get from others for what I'm doing. It addresses that I shouldn't worry about the little things in my day to day life. .
Mayer encourages us to not dwell on ill-conceived problems for any reason that just causes us to unnecessary worry and heartache. I tend to over-think every small detail in situations I get in, so I feel the song speaks directly to me in my daily life. I think that Mayer has a niche for talking about the truths of life. He doesn't like to sugar-coat situations or feelings that he's having. He says it how he feels it, and does an amazing job of imparting those feelings onto you through his music. I think that's a main reason why so many people like his music and feel soulful about it; because it feels like he knows what we are going through and is singing about life, struggles, and successes. .
The role of the music is to make the listener feel alive, happy, and upbeat through the use of symbol crashes and the light notes of the acoustic guitar. The song is talking about going out enjoying life and forgetting all our worries and troubles. It encourages us to not to let small problems keep us from doing the things we enjoy most; such as spending times with friends, exploring new areas, or meeting new people. Mayer tells us to learn how to be friends with ourselves in the aspect that we are comfortable with who we are. Mayer uses a combination of symbol crashes and the bass drum, along with strong piano notes to create a feeling of strength to change and become independent to where we aren't relying on others to define us as a person and the actions we make.
