Traditionally, Anywhere Public Library patrons request information by coming into the reference department to ask for materials. Patrons can also ask for quick answers to simple research questions over the telephone and via email. To enhance customer service, the APL conducted a patron services survey last quarter. The results of this survey indicated that patrons would like additional ways to make requests through our library. Some suggestions included a web-based interface, reference chat, and texting capabilities. .
To respond to patrons' needs, the APL staff has researched a number of possible ways to expand reference services in accordance with the goals of the APL's Mission and Vision statements. It is the recommendation of the APL Reference Staff that we implement the ABC Reference Portal into our existing website. This will allow patrons the option of communicating with reference staff directly through our website via a computer or smartphone.
