The last step is Tertiary Intervention which involves a long term plan as to how to escape from the abusive spouse. This must be done very carefully because once the victim leaves, they become much more at risk of homicide by the hand of the abuser. .

             The second article is named "Handbook of Domestic Violence Intervention Strategies: Policies, programs and legal remedies". This article briefly explains four different domesticly violent situations and how the myths of society cause women to believe that not only are they not actually being abused, but the abuse is something that they have brought upon themselves. A few of these myths are, 1. woman battering only happens in the lower economic classes, 2. woman battering is not a significant issues because most incidents are in the form of a slap or a push that does not cause serious medical problems, 3. police wont arrest the batterer because they view domestic violence as a private issue, 4. alcohol or drug abuse causes men to batter their partners. There are twelve myths, and the ones listed are not in order, however for content purposes the others will be left out of this paper.

             The article then goes on to explain the historical background of domestic abuse and the efforts made to prevent it including various programs that help provide services to escape from bad homes and then to help them get back on their feet afterwords. The article also talks about the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) passed in 1994 that was intended to improve the criminal justice response to crimes against women, expand services and community support for domestic violence victims, improve safety for women in public places against sexual assault, and to provide support for educational, health and database services. .

             The third article called "Domestic Violence and Child protection: Directions for Good Practice". This article focuses specifically on the effects of domestic violence on the children in the household.
