Can people live in the world free of gender biases? Is it possible or impossible? "Storm of Controversy," an article by Leanne Italie published in the New York associated press in 2011, told a story about a couple, Witterick and Stocker-"s decision to raise their child genderless, which ignites a firestorm of responses. They think that the world is boxed into outdated traditions and ideas, and their child should be free from all them. The parents believe that it is their child's fate to create his/her own ideas, thoughts as well as select his/her own path in the near future. In my opinion, even though their plan/decision is based on good intention, the way they impose/implement it is misguided or can be labeled as" political awareness gone awry,"(Italie 2011).
First of all, this seem to be some sort of social experiment, where they are using their child to send a message to the world; therefore, it can negatively affect the child's mental and emotional development. The child is not a guinea pig. He/she is too young to have his/her own judgment. Parents should be the light, the guide for their child, not the obstacle to cause unnecessary anxiety or confusion. The couple wants their child to be free from gender biases and take his/her own path. But sadly, they are creating an invisible path forced upon their child without knowing all the consequences that might come altogether with it. Such as, the child may experience isolation growing up as well as possible bullying from the other kids. Furthermore, it is not the parents but the child who will eventually have to face and deal with those problems. What will occur is unknown, but that is to say, the child is already on the center stage of the press and media which causes unwanted attention for a mere 4 month-old "cherubic, chubby-cheeked, blonde-haired Storm." (Italie 2011).
This may be a product of good intention, but their doings are entirely wrong and misguided which is worse than a "helicopter parents.
