A Basic Biographical Sketch: Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr.

 

            
             holds much suspense in the eyes of the American public since the announcement that President Obama chose him to fill the role of Attorney General. Knowing the impressive biography of Mr. Holder Jr. should put the country at ease, as this man has accomplished much in his career and should prove to be competent and ready to embrace President Obama's call for change. Holder Jr. was born in New York City, where he did not experience the privilege of attending private schools, he studied and worked hard in public school and received a Regents Scholarship from Stuyvesant High School. He continued to work hard after he was admitted to Columbia Law School, where he majored in American History and graduated in 1973. He immediately went into law school at Columbia Law and clerked for the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and the Department of Justice's Criminal Division. His appreciation for law, an end to corruption, and community service was born at this time. After graduating Columbia Law in 1976, he immediately went to Washington D.C., where he still resides to this day with his wife (an obstetrician) and his three children. .
             While Holder Jr. was fresh out of Columbia Law he joined the Department of Justice in a division that had just been formed, the Public Integrity Section. He was assigned to his post there on the Attorney General's Honors Program, as he is now looking at the position of Attorney General, it is fair to say that he has been prepping for the job, since that post in 1976. Holder Jr. did much work to stop corruption and began to catch the eyes of many Presidents due to his diligence and integrity at this time. Both Presidents Reagan and Clinton appointed Holder Jr. to various high ranking positions. Reagan appointed Holder Jr. as Associate Judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia in 1988, where he spent five years working with violent criminal and high-stakes civil procedures.
