             To obtain an occupation as a forester, one must complete a four year program at a university or college. Some recommended courses to take include botany, biology, geology, history, and archaeology. Thirty or more hours of natural sciences are also recommended. (Park Ranger Career Site, Josh) Any and all opportunities for practice in forestry are beneficial because even thought many may receive a degree in the field, almost no one is accepted for a full time job without doing some seasonal work. Seasonal work or internships are opportunities for one to demonstrate their abilities, interests, and enthusiasm. Students are usually required to do a field project on the specialty of their interest. (Careers in the Environment, 162) The minimum education required is a bachelor's degree in science, also called a B.S. Many students have gone for a masters or doctoral degree which will benefit them when applying for a job. Since one can specialize in specific fields, one may need to obtain a degree in medicine, teaching, architecture, etc. However, with at least three years of park experience, and skills in law enforcement, conservation, management, and communications, it is possible for one to become a ranger without a four-year degree. (Park Ranger Career Site, Josh) But, some states require a forester to have a license or to be registered in order to professionally offer services to companies or other people. The more eligible and desired foresters have a degree and license in an environmental or wildlife field. This allows them to obtain a higher salary, more responsibility, and a better job.              Foresters perform a wide variety of duties in managing parks, historical sites, and recreational areas. Park Rangers supervise, manage and perform work in the conservation and use of resources in national parks and other federally-managed areas.
