Background information: Before The War.
The Vietnam War, well known and brought up a lot in today's world as a comparison to the current Iraq war. This war took place because the Vietnams couldn't agree on one government so they broke up into two major parts, North and the South. North Vietnam wanted to have Communism for a government under the influence of Ho Chi Minh, and the South wanted to have democracy, under the influence of the French rule. Richard Nixon, the president of America at that time, quoted "We will fight any country that is fighting for Democracy." But the real reason that they came in was because they were afraid that communism would get too powerful. They thought this because the Northern Vietnam was backed by China and Russia. Both these countries were powerful then and still now. Russia at that point had already expanded its empire into Eastern Europe, Korea and Cuba. .
A. The First Problems.
The Americans came up to a dross road. Either to help South Vietnam, which was highly impossible because South Vietnam had only consisted of armies with low morale, and all the corrupted leaders and officials, or to fight against communism, which was another hard task to accomplish because if they were to fight communism, they would have to fight communism in the surrounding countries, including Russia and China. The Americans couldn't make up their mind so they decided to do things their own way, sending a few hundred thousand men to make a start to the stop of communism. But to their surprise, the American troops couldn't locate and find the Vietnamese combat men. The reason behind this was that the Vietcong Guerillas knew that the forests were too dense to have any big vehicles and tanks. With this, they got into bikes and moved around much more efficiently than the Americans. The American troops had relied too much on the high tech equipment; in the forests it was impossible for them to track them down, because of all the movement going on from tree to tree.
