            Topic: I have chosen how the birth order affects ones personality as my topic.
             Specific purpose: My purpose is to strengthen or change the attitudes and beliefs of the audience in regard to the influence of birth order on personality.
             Introduction.
             I. Birth order is one way to gain an understanding of friends, family members, and co-workers. .
             II. Some researchers believe how you are placed in your family can have an influence on personality traits.
             A. Today I am going to explain the basic categories of birth order personalities.
             B. I hope that you will be able to identify with many of the traits in your category.
             Transition: Dr. Kevin Leman is an internationally known psychologist, humorist, best-selling author, radio/TV personality, and speaker. He is also a consulting psychologist for "Good Morning America" and founder and president of Couples of Promise.
             Body.
             I. Leman writes, " The first born is something of a guinea pig as mom and dad try to learn the fine art of parenting. After all, they have never done this before. Everything about a firstborn child is a big deal There is little doubt that the family sort of overdoes things with the firstborn." With only adults as role models, firstborns often become "little adults" as children.
             A. Firstborns are often described as being conscientious, well-organized, serious, goal oriented, achieving, people pleasers, and believers in authority. They are also known for being perfectionists, reliable, critical, scholarly, legalistic, and self-reliant.
             B. Firstborns are more conforming, traditional, and closely identified with parents than their siblings.
             C. Chances are that the firstborns you know fall into one of two categories.
             1. Compliant, nurturing caregivers.
             2. The aggressive movers and shakers.
             a. Of the first twenty-three astronauts sent into outer space, twenty-one were firstborn, or only children.
             b. Over 50% of US presidents were the firstborn children in their family.
