As the boat idled into the cove, the afternoon sun pierced the fiery sky. The heat had begun to get to everyone in the cove making everything seem like it was moving in slow motion. As we turned around a bend we saw the many boats that had already anchored in the cove and the many people floating aimlessly in the clear waters.
We had finally made it to copper canyon, where my family and many of our friends were going to spend the afternoon lounging lazily in the crystal clear water. As I jumped in I instantly felt refreshing rush of the cold water on my body. We floated in the cool waters of lake Havasu for an hour when I noticed someone climbing the side of the canyon. I instantly turned my attention to this kid that had begun to climb the canyon wall. He climbed higher and higher never stopping. Finally after about two minutes of looking for niches in the canyon walls for places to hold on he had reached the summit of the rock. He stood there for many minutes trying to reach a decision on whether or not to go through with jumping off the 65 foot ledge. As he stood there with the wind slowly blowing the hot musty air of the lake in his face I knew exactly what he was thinking, "what have I gotten myself into?" I also made out the voices of his many friends waiting in the waters below, " Jump! Jump! Come on!" He finally smiled, leaned foreword, and jumped. In an instant he emerged from the water and gave out a loud yell of triumph. I knew at that instant what I had to do, I had to swim to that rock and jump.
I slowly swam through the refreshing waters over to the rock. I took my time slowly getting up the courage to make my leap. When I finally made it over to the rock I looked up and thought to myself "Hey this isn't so high, I can do this easy." As I began climbing, I noticed how slippery the rock was right by the water, and hoped that it got less slippery higher up. I made it up about 20 feet to a spot where many little kids had been jumping from earlier.
