Recipe of Life

Idgie's belief about what she thinks and what she feels makes her do what she has to do. We can see how much Idgie keeps her belief in heart from what she says to Ruth, "I still want you to come back and I"m not a kid anymore, so I"m not gonna change. I still love you and I always will and I still don't care what anybody thinks?(179). .
There is the second recipe in this novel, how to find our real life. About this recipe, Evelyn shows a good example by changing her depressed life to the life what she has wanted to live. Evelyn is a depressed middle aged wife and mother, who has always done what was expected of her and lost herself in the process. Her depressed mind is horribly described in this novel. .
She even knew how she would kill herself. It would be with a silver bullet. As round and smooth an ice-cold blue martini. She would place the gun in the freezer for a few hours before she did it, so it would feel frosty and cold against her head. She could almost feel the ice-cold bullet shooting through her hot, troubled brain, freezing the pain for good. (61).
However, Evelyn is changed and empowered by Ninny's stories of Idgie's exploits. Evelyn shows that the answers for the problems which we have suffered from for a long time are not so far away, and I"m not the only one who has been struggling to find one's identity. The first step which Evelyn takes to find her life is listening to Ninny's stories, and then she tries to follow the Idgie's way of being herself. While she tries to imitate Idgie, she shows some strange way of thinking and behavior, but later she succeeds in finding her way of life and learning that it is okay to love herself for who she is. In the novel, after two young girls takes Evelyn's parking space, and insults Evelyn, she shows how much she has been changing herself to find her identity. Evelyn crashes their car several times and says "Let's face it honey. I"m older than you are and have more insurance than you do?(289).
