Terrorism and Globalization: Is Terrorism a Part of Globaliz

 


             Is globalization a cause for terrorism, do the two go hand-in-hand? Does globalization breed terrorism; is it a means for the survival of terrorism? Or does terrorism use globalization as an excuse for its existence, a tool by which it functions? These are just some of the questions this paper will attempt to explain.
             Before answering these questions, it is important to know the structure of this paper. After this introduction, the paper will be divided into sections. Section I: History and Definitions, will consist of a timeline and the definitions of terrorism and globalization. One must know a timeframe for the "sudden trend- of terrorism as well as how terrorism and globalization will be defined for this paper. *NOTE: General widely accepted definitions will be used due to the controversial nature of the two topics amongst Political Scientist agreeing to just one permanent definition for each. Section II: Theoretical Framework, this section will focus more in depth on the theory of globalization than just the definition. Major aspects and elements of globalization will be examined and how they relate with each other to become a theory. Section III: Operationalization, the connection between globalization and terrorism will be established. Here, the understanding to the formulation of the questions in the introduction will become evident. Section IV: Empirical Research, data collected from interviews, books, journals, websites, and class-notes, will be compiled to answer the questions presented in the introduction. Counter arguments, if any, will also be addressed. Section V: Summary, is self-explanatory, the focus will be on the information collected in Section IV in relation to the questions presented in the introduction to answer the title question of the paper: Is terrorism a part of globalization?
