You know when your dad tells you to pay attention on the road, and you kind of blow him off, well, unfortunately this summer I figured out exactly why they say that.
In July 2003, the summer before my senior year in high school I drove a 1990 Ford Tempo with tinted windows, 14" chrome wheels, and a fifteen hundred-dollar sound system. It looked pretty nice to me, even though some people called it a "piece of crap". Well, I was at a pool hall with some of my friends and they decided to have this girl come up and play pool with us, and I had never met her before, so I was pretty excited. She came up and when I first saw her I was like WOW, she looks good, but she was there with another guy so I assumed that he was her boyfriend, but later I figured out that he was a guy who she didn't want to be with, and they weren't going out. So after a few days I managed to see if she wanted to go to a movie with me and of course she said yes. Well our first date at the movie theatre went great. We left the movie theatre and I turned right onto 101st street. I thought I was in the straight lane but apparently I was in a turn lane into an apartment complex, I looked in front of me and saw a curb only a few feet ahead. I didn't have time to do anything so my car popped the curb and went airborne for a few seconds. When we hit the ground we bounced and I tried to swerve the car back on the road but it just fishtailed right into a telephone pole. It totaled the whole car. The wheels were broken, the change out of my change holder was everywhere in the car, my radio deck fell into two pieces; it was horrible. After we hit the telephone pole the car was smoking so I told her to get out. My car door was stuck against the pole so I had to climb out of the passenger side door. We both got out safely and walked up the ditch a few feet and just sat down; I was still in shock of what happened. I threw my cell phone down and said a few choice words.
