The Sanctuary, as Known to High School Football Players

They see as their friends are coming onto the field, preparing for their own adventurous night, because they know that on this night they are meant to be here, on this very field. The field has become their weekly meeting place, not to discuss life but to make their life on the field. .
             The field is typically very wet when game time comes. The slick green grass is a welcome sight in comparison to the footing on most high school practice fields. The freshly painted yard lines are quickly dulled as the teams cold-heartedly trample them with their constant running and cutting carelessly over them. The lines, along with the end zones, are now just a memory, with little resemblance to their former state. The irony in the whole situation is that the grass that the players are now viciously trampling with their every cut, will be there only cushion from the brutality that they will face later on in the night. .
             Some of the joy in being on this field, is the fact that one other team is making the exact same journey as you on that night. There is a kid right across from you, that in all likelihood, is thinking of the exact same thing as you. The field will be the place where all players get the opportunity to prove to everyone that they are better than the person lined up across from them. Every player has to play on the same field, under the same conditions, with the same situations for everyone on this particular field. This field of grass ends up being the great equalizer. Everyone has the same advantages and disadvantages, now the field may not be used as an excuse to make up for mistakes.
             Part of the mystique of some football stadiums is what surrounds them outside of the field. A lot of times these things that have absolutely no impact on the game, but can be used as intimidation factors for other teams. These things can be as simple as banners stating team accomplishments. Other things can be even more intimidating, like a train track right outside the field, with giant cars that scream past the visiting players in the middle of the game.
