Yes they were to be had at the first annual Evans Eagles' reunion. The setting included giant green oak trees, a view of lake water from the back deck, fireflies, stars, crickets, bullfrogs, and roadrunners. The food was tasty and plentiful. The lodging was spacious and comfortable. It was, however, the guests that made the trip worth the extra effort to attend. A firm handshake, a look deep into matured eyes, a sincere smile, and a quick greeting made the years and concerns melt away. I could tell that each person was truly glad to see the others.
When we gathered together in the den or on the porch, tales and jokes were told, obscenities blurted, farts rattled rafters, Swisher sweets smoked, and names from obscurity were thrown into the conversation ring, Laughter overflowed our cups. If a person doesn't like being talked about, then he should be in attendance at the 2nd annual Evans Eagles" reunion. .
We all took different paths and made our way in the world. This past weekend was like a rest stop on the journey. There is something special about going back in time to revisit common memories. I know that by the time a person has lived fifty years, he has seen both good times and down times, and these experiences are noted in due time with crow's feet and gray hair. But in each Eagle's eyes I could sense a mutual feeling of " well done, my friend ". We may or may not have climbed the corporate ladder, scaled the slippery mountain of fame, traveled the four corners of the earth, accumulated mounds of wealth, or acted upon our dreams, but we made the effort and found the time to gather and share some precious time with some old buddies. That's what is truly commendable and worth noting. .
Thank you guys.
Keep on truckin" .
