Brutus's Honor

 

             On the day of September the eleventh, many police and fire fighters went into the damaged World Trade Centers to try and save many of the people who were caught in the burning buildings. These heroes had a great deal of honor because they had to have known that going into these buildings could end up being then end of their life. According to Webster's New World Dictionary, honor is "high regard or respect and good reputation"(283). The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, written be William Shakespeare, has a character named Brutus who has a tragic flaw that is honor. Brutus has a major downfall because he is an honorable man. .
             Since Brutus is Cassius's friend, Brutus listens to Cassius about killing Caesar. Cassius states, "I am glad that my weak words/Have struck but theirs much show of fire from Brutus"(1.2.176-1770. Cassius is happy that Brutus listened to him and wants to kill Caesar. Brutus insinuates, " and find a time both meet to hear and answer such high things"(1.2.169-170). Brutus tells Cassius that they need to meet to talk about how and when they are going to kill Caesar. .
             When Cassius talks to Brutus about killing Antony, Brutus thinks that it is not necessary. Brutus proclaims, "Our cause will seem to bloody, Cais Cassius/ To cut the head off and then hack off the limbs-(2.1.162-163). Brutus accepts Cassius offer, but Brutus does not want to kill Antony because Antony is just Caesar's good friend and will not interfere with their plans. Brutus announces, "And for Marc Antony, think not of him;/For her can do no more then Caesar's arm/ When Caesar's head is off"(2.1181-183). Brutus is talking to the conspirators about the fact that they do not need to kill Antony because he will not harm then when Caesar is dead. .
             Because Antony wants to speak about Caesar's death, Brutus allows him to speak to the Romans. Antony says, " over the wounds now do I prophesy-(3.1.259). Antony is speaking over Caesar's body because Brutus allows him to speak to the Romans about Caesar and his death.
