My Canada

Canada was found in 1500 and established as a country in 1867. Today, it has become one of the best places to live in. One might think how a country can be so well recognized in just less than 200 years; the answer is that Canadians have been able to solve problems together to improve the country. Being able to accomplish that is not straightforward, but in a country like Canada, people work together regardless of their religion, sexual preference and ethnic background. Canada gives others an exact idea of what multiculturalism is; in one's mind, multiculturalism is a theory that encourages others to accept different cultures other than only a mainstream culture. With that in mind, people feel comfortable immigrating to Canada and in return, they contribute to Canada's growing economy.
Dating back to World War II to the recent Kosovo war, Canada played an important role fighting and punishing countries who commit discriminatory acts based on one's race. By participating in the war, Canada is discouraging racism in other countries; proving to the rest of the world that it does not like any racist acts and whoever does it will get penalized. Setting a good example as such will constantly improve Canada's multicultural atmosphere and furthermore, it will attract immigrants from around the world to immigrate to this multicultural country.
It was a morning in October 1997 when my parents told me that I will immigrate from Hong Kong to Toronto in two months. At that point in time, I had not heard of the city, Toronto; in fact, all I could think of was that it is a city with only Caucasians. I recalled that at school, I learned about the Klu Klux Klan in America, where the Caucasians would commit horrible hate crimes on minorities; I was troubled thinking about a country that had only Caucasians and frightened that I would become a minority in Canada and be discriminated. There were numerous questions and uncertainty in my head; however I knew that no matter what I do, the decision would not be changed, thus I told myself that Canada is not as bad as I thought and I would get accustomed to it.
