Discuss in detail how you would play Elizabeth or John Proct

When she tells him she took great care I would say it with great love to let him know she cares for him. When she replies "That's well", I would stay in the same position just watching him eat with a longing look in my eyes, showing I wasn't really listening, but thinking about how much she loved him and wished to forgive him. I would stay like this, in a daydream until he asks her for cider when I would get up and shake my head, thinking of how silly it was of me to have forgotten. I think Elizabeth is always longing to forgive John and never really concentrates on what he is saying hence the short answers. When John says she should bring some flowers in and she says she forgot I think at this moment Elizabeth has changed her mood, realising how much she loves him and I would say this line as if to say sorry. When she gets up and takes his plate and cutlery away to wash, she remembers how he has hurt her and remembers to show she is hurt. When he says, "I think you"re sad again, are you?" she is almost angry for spoiling the atmosphere and realises she must ask him what she suspicions of him. I would say her line "You come home so late I thought you"d gone to Salem", I would say it with raised eyebrows, with a breezy tone, not showing she is too upset. I would then turn to say my next line and let him know with a look distrust that she still thinks he is covering something up. I think she tells him about Mary Warren going to Salem knowing that he"ll be angry. I would say, "I couldn't stop her", emphasising on the "I" being quite angry that he blames her for Mary going. When he says "Your the mistress here Elizabeth", she should reply "She frightened all my strength away", quietly looking at the floor with a look of sorrow on her face. Elizabeth is now scared because she knows John will get angry when she tells him Mary Warren is an official of the court - she is right.
