Did Kurt Cobain really pull the trigger?.
On April 5th 1994 Kurt Cobain, the lead singer of alternative rock band Nirvana, allegedly took his own life. Leaving behind a wife, a 19-month-old daughter, scores of friends and millions of fans, there was no apparent reason for this shock suicide. He locked himself in a room at his home put a gun to his head and shot himself. As with all famous deaths, this suicide left many questions unanswered and a string of conspiracy theories. However, the amount of evidence that exists which points toward murder is overwhelming. In this dissertation I aim to prove that Cobain did not pull the trigger of the gun that he allegedly shot himself with and was not alone in the room when he died.
.
My aim is not to prove who killed Kurt Cobain just that he did not shoot himself. I will start with the evidence at the house:.
Below is a picture of Kurt's suicide note.
.
.
The whole note reads as an informal letter of resignation to his fans, stating that he just did not have the love for performance anymore so instead of fading away and letting them all down he was going to call it a day. Why would he sign his first and surname if it was anything else? However, the last four lines are the only lines in which he says any final goodbyes, which according to forensics are the only lines that give the note a recognised suicide pattern. These four lines are clearly in very different handwriting.
1. 3. .
2. 4. .
These are four samples of the handwriting on the note the two on the left are from the main bulk of the letter and the two on the right are from the last four lines at this point I will state that all samples have been magnified by the same amount so straight away there is a clear difference in size. My next point is that 1 and 2 are sloped forwards whereas 3 and 4 are sloped back. There is a distinct difference between the "f's" in 1 and those in 3 the ones in 3 are much more rounded the "f" in Frances was not finished correctly it is clear that the top cross bar doesn't fit smoothly to the letter where as in 1 they are both smoothly drawn.
