The Maine Casino Question

It was a groundbreaking agreement, and was supposed to solve the Indian dilemma forever. As part of the deal, the tribes agreed to give up rights enjoyed by many federally recognized tribes, including gambling. To allow these tribes to start a casino would be a direct violation of the agreement that the tribes signed in 1980 (York Daily).
Even if you agree with building a casino in Maine, I urge you to take a closer look at the full legislation of the bill that could be passed. This bill is deceitful to the Maine people; it takes the control away from the state, and gives it to the wealthy Las Vegas backers. .
In this bill, minors of any ago can gamble in was it called a "bazaar game". A bazaar game means a game, sport, amusement, contest, undertaking or enterprise in which chance, fortune or luck is the predominating factor or element in the winning or awarding of a prize. It seems like there is nothing inherently wrong with creating game to entertain those too young to gamble in the casino; however, the prizes include lottery tickets. In the state of Maine it is illegal for anyone under 18 to buy a lottery ticket; in this bill, a ten year old could win one (Chapter 601, 6303). Also included in this bill, the casino exempts themselves from paying cooperate income taxes, which is unfair to other local businesses. In addition, if Maine tries to change the fees or taxes on the casino we automatically lose the 25% of the slot machine revenue promised (601, 6313).
Why else is this referendum a deceptive scheme? Because in the referendum the casino exempts itself from complying with any of the Maine State health regulations in any or their hotel rooms. The casino must comply with the regulations inside the casino, but in the resort, approximately 40,000 toilet flushes would go unchecked. However, 40,000 is just a starting point. In the proposed bill the Indians grant themselves freedom to build the world's largest casino.
