Homer isn't all bad however. There is that little touch of good that comes out every now and then. He contradicts himself frequently. At one moment he will be the drunken, sex crazed, party animal, and at the next moment, he will be the loving, caring, father and still somewhat sex crazed husband. Homer may neglect his kids now and then, and even forget about baby Maggie, but he is always there time and time again for advice. It's not always the best advice, but its still advice nonetheless. This shows that even though Homer is portrayed as a moron most of the time. He does manage to contradict that portrayal on a frequent basis.
Homer, like other celebrities and media icons, has the ability to endorse various products. He has done commercials for Butterfinger candy bars; he has been on lunchboxes, posters, backpacks, and a countless number of Tee-shirts. Homer hasn't sold out his icon status, not at all. He will never be as much of a sellout as say, Mickey Mouse endorsing everything, or Snoopy and his MetLife commercials. Homer sticks to his own ground, endorsing his show. He doesn't need that extra stuff. I believe that the media doesn't want him for their promotions most of the time due to his reputation. Would you want your product to be endorsed by a stupid, drunken fat guy?.
Homer is the creation of Matt Groening, creator and writer of The Simpsons. Along with his wife Marge, son Bart, and daughters Lisa and Maggie, he is perfectly content in his animated world at 742 Evergreen Terrace in Springfield. I should say he would be content with his life, if it wasn't for his job. Homer works at the local Nuclear Power plant. He is the safety inspector, although he is far from safe at the workplace. Constantly falling asleep on the job in sector 7G, Homer is more of a hindrance than a help. Homer has come within inches of causing nuclear meltdowns, and has even caused a fellow employee to commit suicide.
