Self-Assertiveness

When I read this The Yellow Wallpaper, my curiosity is not to the girl but to her husband, John. For me, Johns behavior to his wife who has a nervous breakdown is strange. He was a physician. However, he did not try to cure her sickness as much as possible. Just he said, you are better, and he made her stay home. Was it a proper treatment for her? Even if he had patients who has same symptom as his wife, he would have cured them with same way?.
I wondered why John did not try to know the cause of her nervous condition. Did he jump to the condition that she just had mind depression because of birthing a baby? Even if he thought that her depression was because of birthing a baby, he should have known how to cure the woman who birthed a baby as a physician.
According to the Color Psychology, yellow has many influences on people: induce hallucinations, stimulate mind and prompt to improve mind depression, and stimulate the digestive system and sooth indigestion. When I knew these yellow effects on people, I was surprised because the Color Therapy began studying within a few decades ago; however, this novel was written over on hundred years ago. John said, This place is doing good. Did he know these yellow effects? Actually, in term of Color Psychology, this room was good for her mental. However, I do not think John knew these facts at that period. .
It seems that he had some reasons why he did not try to cure her nervous breakdown as much as possible and why he chose the rest cure for her. I think John just wanted to make her stay home while he was working. This place is doing you good was an ostensible reason. The key reason was that he did not want her work in the society. It did not matter for John that she would take care their baby and home. Anyway, he seems to want to make her stay home. Because he loved her so much, so he did not want her to meet other men in the working place? Did he have some strong monopolistic desires? Because he was thinking that a wife should stay home? Did he have conservative thinking? Did he have patriarchal thinking?.
