Neither house can meet for more than two days without permission of the other house. The legislature may not pass a law that has more than one topic. If a majority of citizens in a county votes to prohibit the sale of alcoholic beverages in that county the legislatures is not allowed to interfere with that decision. The legislature is not allowed to pass a law for the death penalty. The legislatives main role in the state of Michigan is to make the laws.
             The next branch I will talk about is the Executive. The governor is the chief executive of the state. That means that he or she is responsible for seeing that the laws of the state are followed through. The governor has many jobs and powers. The executive branch has 22 departments. The executive branch is combined into departments under the supervision of the governor. The governor appoints heads of these departments. Some of these appointments must be approved by the state senate. The governor is Commander-in-chief. He is in charge of all the armed forces in Michigan. The governor also plays a role in the lawmaking in Michigan. Bills that have been passed by the legislature must be given to the governor for his ok. The governor has the power to veto a bill. The governor is also a Ceremonial head. The governor is expected to appear at special celebrations, festivals, and public affairs. He or she is also a political leader. They are the most important person in his or her political party. A person must meet two legal qualifications in order to qualify to be a candidate for governor. They must be at least thirty years old, and the person must have been a registered voter in Michigan for four years immediately before the election. Michigans governor serves a four year term. There is no limit to the number of terms a governor may serve. The governor does have some what of a partner. The governor is elected with a lieutenant governor.
