I graduated from a Math and Science School where speaking a foreign language wasn't that important as being almost a genius in Math or Chemistry, which I hated from the bottom of my heart. Now I am really happy with following my heart and styding English, although everyone thought I was just wasting my time and money, of course if I wanted to improve I had to take private lessons which cost a lot. My love for the language allowed me to apply to an American Univerisy and finally understand the culture in person. It is not easy to have a full understanding and perception of it without even meeting an American or an Englishman, because having random talks with people is not as beneficial as living with them or meeting them every day. By coming to Italy I didn't only get the chance of understanding the American culture but also the Italian one.
However, there are some drawbacks of living in a different country and speaking a different language all the time.
Firsty, I left my home, the place where I grew up and felt a part of. I was used to that type of culture and behaviour and I had to change it. It is not that it was that hard for me, people usually say that the youngest you are the easiest it is to adapt, but still I had some difficulties. For example how Italian men behave and how they shout from their cars or just attach to you as if they were glued and don't understand anything if you are not rude. In Bulgaria, having a man shouting from the car window, even if he is telling you how beautiful you are, was always scary. I was always afraid of that and I used to never walk alone when it was dark. You can't even be rude to boys that bother you only because you don't really know them and you can't predict their actions. Although it may sound strange and not normal, for which I fully agree, you could even get hit if you have the wrong person to be rude to. When I talk like this I give the idea that Bulgaria is a terrible place to live with no respect to women but it is not as bad at all, you just learn to live with it and recognize people from first sight.
