All privileges come with responsibility.
Keeping this in mind, Washington should be the first .
state to take the initiative and give its eighteen year olds the right to obtain and consume .
alcoholic beverages.
As soon as a youth turns eighteen, he or she is liable for any mistake that he or .
she makes and they will be tried as an adult in court. It's funny how eighteen year olds .
can be drafted to go to war for their country but they can't even consume alcohol. If the .
government can give them the responsibility of using guns and ammunition on other .
humans to protect the country, these young adults should be allowed the privilege to have .
alcoholic drinks.
It's comical to think that the government sees eighteen year olds as adults and .
gives them the opportunity to elect presidents and vote on various issues, but will not let .
them enjoy the pleasure of an alcoholic beverage. If the government sees eighteen year .
olds as mature enough vote and make changes in our country, it should see them as .
mature enough to buy alcohol and be responsible about what they do with it.
People may say that the amount of deaths on the road will increase due to drunk .
driving, but that is not accurate. If it were not illegal to have alcohol at eighteen, teens .
wouldn't have to go to parties across town and drive home just to have fun. They could .
drink beer in the safety of their own homes and would not have to go anywhere.
Washington State needs to make a stand and lower the drinking age to eighteen. .
Turning eighteen brings new responsibility and with that responsibility should come the .
privilege of being able to obtain and consume alcohol legally. Considering these teens .
can fight for our country and vote for our presidents, eighteen year olds should be treated .
with more respect in our society.
