What exactly is modern? What makes a nation modern? What allows people within that particular nation lead a modern way of life? I believe that modern depends on what is going on in the world at that particular time that is thought of as being new or up and coming in that society, whether it be technology, culture, or even religion. Modern can be a process of modernization, a transformation of a culture and nation. Cultures can go through modern transformations with contact with other people, social traditions, and religions worldwide. The modernization of Europe's wealthy commercial class, naval power, adoption of the American potato, and people's dependency on imported commodities such as sugar and tobacco led to the great impact of Europe taking a step forward into the future of historical modernization.
I feel as if within the context of this paper, "modern" can be taken for several different things. It can be taken as the modernization of the changing diversity of the human races and cultures, which led to a new kind of race awareness on the part of Europeans and sometimes to a cultural relativism in which European customs were only one version of the human behavior. "Modern" can also be taken into the extent of the endless migration of people, the worldwide movement of trade, and the disorienting experiences of cross-cultural encounters which was the highlight in the history of the whole world. .
Modern can be taking as an advance in a particular thing, a new stylish or accommodating way of learning, it can be taken as a word that is ahead of the times. Modern is different in how you look at it, it was a word that is meant to do good, to help make life a little bit easier, a little bit safer, a little bit more historical, and little bit more radical in a nation's mind of fully understanding the world.
