Sophocles is a famous writer who wrote many tragedies two of which are Oedipus the King and Antigone. These plays are centered on Oedipus and Antigone. Oedipus is a king who lost everything he had because of what he thought he was right. Likewise Antigone gave her life because of what she felt was right. Both Antigone and Oedipus have many characteristics of a tragic hero, because they are courageous and have a fatal flaw of pride. But no two people are the same, and they have there differences too. .
In both of the plays Antigone and Oedipus are very noble people and do what's right. Antigone feels that all people even her brother deserved a proper burial; "with all honorable observances due to the dead". (127) Antigone is a strong person and will not give into orders. She doesn't care what happens to her because the most important thing to her is that she does what is the right thing to do so her brother may have a good after life. Oedipus is also as noble as Antigone is. He knew he had to do what was right so he thought it was his duty to find the killer of the king before him. Oedipus said he would do whatever it takes to find the killer. Being noble was important to Antigone and Oedipus. Antigone knew that if she did what was right and buried her brother then she would have to pay with her life, and she did. Oedipus, however, wanted to do the right thing but did not know that would cost him everything he loves. So both characters .
In order for Antigone and Oedipus to be noble they need to be very courageous. Antigone would have to be the most courageous person in all of the plays. She knew that if she buried her brother against Creons orders, she would pay with her life. She didn't care if she got caught "I do admit it. I do not deny it." (138) She risked her life by burying her brother in a small layer of dirt behind the guards back. Oedipus on the other hand was courageous when he defeated the Sphinx and saved the state from torment.
