Semiotics

Semiotics or semiology is the study of signs, symbols, and signification. It is the study of how meaning is created, not what it is. I chose a car from my Dupont Registry Magazine that signifies things in life. It's the Bugatti EB Veyron 16.4. This automobile signifies wealth, speed and power. One symbolic sign on this front cover is the Bugatti emblem, which shows me that this is a Bugatti.
Wealth, the signifier that everyone wants in life. This makes me think about how much money you need to buy one of these cars. A million bucks should cover it, that's not including insurance on this every month. There are myths about these cars that help people decide whether or not they should buy this car. Going more into why it symbolizes wealth would be the color. Depending on what color you choose, that could up the price, no problem. Wealth is now my signified and now I"ll continue with the next two signifiers on my list. .
Another signifier of the Bugatti will be power. Just look at it, how can you sit there and say it doesn't prove power by its looks? Well, open the hood of the car, read the manual, do something. It's got about 1000 horsepower. This could tear anything up. Power gets you anywhere in life, the more money u have, the more power you have, the easier it is to get a job in today's world. I know I"m going on with these paradigmatic relations, but power is the most important in life.
Speed, why does this car signify speed? It's an ironic sign. Looking at the car's shape and size, it looks quick by how smooth and slick the detail on the car may be. To me, it's like a bug flying through the air on a sunny day. Not many cars can go 250 M.P.H. and 0-60 in less than three seconds. Shape proves speed on every object in the world, the skinnier it may be with lower weight, the quicker it"ll be. Same with a fat person, the fatter you are, the slower you will be. Speed doesn't matter though, it's safer to be "fat" so you don't kill yourself trying to maneuver a car like this, but you may want this for a race or two here and there.
