The role of females in the 1600's was much different than it is now.
Cue for Treason, Kit, a remarkable young female, shows the reader something .
unexpected. While most females were looked at as unimportant and with less authority, .
Kit defied that. While the female was at home cooking, cleaning and doing typical .
females activities, Kit was out on an adventure. She left her old life behind and seeked .
one of more value. Kit is very unorthodox to other women of the 1600's because of her .
adventurous personality, her keen intuition and willingness to succeed.
Kit was introduced into the book as a male, a young boy in contest with Peter. .
This really showed her adventurous style. "They were searching for a young lady. She .
ran away from her home during the night[ ]" (60). Mr. Desmond said this to Peter after .
authority stopped them. Coincidentally just after, Kit Kirkstone (a young boy with a .
talent in female acting) showed up and traveling along with the company. Another point .
where Kit puts herself in danger is when Peter is climbing up the wall to listen to the .
conversation between Sir Phillip and the Yellow Gentlemen. Kit made a large noise to .
distract them. Throughout the whole story, Kit has a role in the adventure. It is her .
general personality.
Kit's intuition is evident in chapter 20. Kit is responsible for getting Peter and her .
out of a mess. "Kit was standing very pale and tight-lipped waffling her pistol in the .
direction of the Magistrate."(229) After Peter has explained the story to Mr. Armthwaite, .
Kit realizes he was not a person to trust from his response and his tone of voice. She .
pointed out that he pretended not to know Sir Phillip when they had dined before and also .
Mr. Armthwaite was very nervous at the mention of Sir Phillip. It was this, Kit's insight, .
which allowed them both to escape.
.
Kit is also a very willing and enthusiastic person. She is always forming new .
ideas and jumping into the task.
