Faith in Advertising: Signs From God?.
Billboards along-side American highways are looking up. It would not be uncommon for an American commuter to see a billboard having a simple black background with white typeface saying, "Keep using my name in vain and I"ll make rush hour longer," signed from God. The message is simple and subtle, yet it attempts to bring to light the word of God to those people who need it most. The scripture verse that sums up what the small advertising agency from Florida was trying to portray. The verse comes from the letter of Ephesians. "So then, putting away all falsehood, let all of is speak the truth to our neighbors, for we are members of one another 4:25." The advertising agency has indeed put away all falsehoods and created a campaign that speaks subtly the truth about the word of God.
The God Speaks billboards started with a private and faithful donor. The donor had two questions, "What if people on the streets of America were reminded of God and the importance He plays or wants to play in our world and personal life. What would God say to us if he had a voice (Or in this case a billboard or two) to present His message into the hearts and minds of millions of people?" After that moment, the donor's representatives and the ad advertising firm, Smith Agency, began to create the beginning of the "God Speaks" campaign.
The God Speaks campaign was to be an easy campaign that would be capable of bending a smile or cause some sort of neural activity. A campaign that reflected the Bible. Most importantly, its creators hoped that the campaign would speak to those who needed it most. .
Thus, the billboards were to be hung throughout Southern Florida and the anonymous donor's home town. The advertising agency had no idea what they had started. Their timing couldn't have been better. People from every walk of life were taking in the campaign's message. The little reminders of an active God had become the focus on highways throughout Florida and the local media.
