The first character I chose was Roger Chillingworth. The song I chose that I felt fit his personality and mood throughout the book was a song by 311 titled All Mixed Up. I think this fits him very well because it seems as though he is confused and doesn't know 100% of what is going on with Hester and this other man. In a way, Dimmesdale is a very inscrutable character. It seems as though he feels that Hester is acting very contumaciously, when he doesn't know for sure. The song is talking about trusting yourself and not letting what is going on gets to you. Roger Chillingworth said, " if I knew of the man, I would point my finger, and have hurled him from his pulpit into a dungeon." On this page he is talking about wondering who this man is, and talking about what punishment he thinks would be a harsh enough punishment, without even knowing this man. .
The second character I chose was Hester Prynne. The song I chose for her was a song called, 1,000 deaths by Aesop Rock. I thought that this song fits Hester very well because he is talking about how all the people are pushing him away and how people have looked down on him for his actions. He apologizes trying to change people's caprice that they felt and how he has broken down their " ropes, ladders and stairs" or the way the other people are thinking. It is also talking about how the people have put this burden on him and how he doesn't feel shamed about his "sin." As much as Hester felt shunned by the town she still reached forth to succor them. Dimmesdale said. "Ah, but let her cover the mark as she will, the pain of it will be always in her heart." It seems as though they have both led tempestuous lives. .
The final character is Arthur Dimmesdale. The song that I felt goes best with his personality was a song called, WonderWall by Oasis. In this song it is talking about how much he loves a woman and the way that that he feels about her.
