Getting Older

It was my birthday and I was turning 16 years old. My mom, dad, sister and I were all in Wisconsin, visiting my mom's side of the family. I"m sitting there surrounded by family and my moms friends that none of us have seen in a long time. Although I was excited about seeing my family and friends, and getting presents from everyone, I was more excited about the fact that I was going to get my license. I had waited my whole life to get my license, and today I"d finally be able to drive by myself. .
Why was it so important for me to get my license? Why was it such a big deal? I thought it would be fun to cruise the streets, and burn out everywhere. Not only would it be a fun, new experience for me, but it would be more freedom and independence. No longer would I have to rely on my parents and friends to give me rides everywhere, I could go where ever I wanted, when I wanted to do it. .
As we get older in life, we all get to experience new and better types of freedom and independence. Driving was a major one for me, but there are many more types of it. For some people, it's getting their first car, or not having to share rooms with your brother or sister anymore and getting your own room. One of the biggest types of independence is when you get your first job. You"re going to school, working, and making money all at the same time. As you finally become adult, you become independent, and can have all the freedom you want. Although, a time comes again when you begin to have it stripped away from you. When you start getting to an older age, you usually have nothing left compared to what you did have at one time. Many times, this means relying on assistants to cater your every move, or you may get sent to an old persons home where your under 24 hour supervision. .
As I sit there surrounded by my family and friends, I think about how the time will come when I move out, and can do what I want, but I also think of the downfall where I slowly start to lose it.
